Area 12 Council on Aging & Community Services, Inc.
The Area 12 Council on Aging & Community Services, Inc. established in 1973, is one of 16 Area Agencies on Aging in Indiana, and one of at least 650 in the nation. As a private tax-exempt organization, the council is the primary agency responsible for planning, coordinating and funding services for senior citizens in southeastern Indiana.
Area 12's goal is to provide community services that help the frail elderly and disabled remain at home and independent to prevent premature institutionalization.
Area 12 is governed by a board of directors, assisted by an advisory council comprised primarily of senior citizens. The agency employs about 60 people, mostly part time, to provide services.
Area 12's main office is at 13091 Benedict Drive, Dillsboro, IN 47018, 1-812-432-5215. The executive director is Sally Beckley.
Services are provided equitably throughout Area 12's service delivery area made up of Dearborn, Ohio, Ripley, Switzerland and Jefferson counties. Care management offices are in Lawrenceburg, Madison, Versailles and Vevay. Senior Nutrition Activity Centers are located throughout the five-county area.
Area 12 provides information and referral service, nutrition and activity center, transportation service, legal assistance, adult guardianship, senior employment, pre-nursing home screening, ombudsman program, care management and home-delivered meals. Arrangements for home-maker service, respite care, home heath services and attendant care can be made through Area 12.
