ANIMAL CONTROL BOARD & SHELTER


The Animal Control Board was created by the Dearborn County Board of Commissioners of February 2, 1987 by Ordinance 3-87. Tis description was taken from the Dearborn County Code of Ordinancees 90.5.

The Animal Control Commission, has the authority and responsibility to:

  1. Establish the rules and regulations concerning the operation of the dog shelter, establish standards for the humane treatment and control of all dogs in the county.
  2. Prepare and present the Dog Control Commission budget to the County Commissioners.
  3. Make recommendations to County Commissioners as to necessary changes in the ordinance regarding the care, treatment and control of dogs.

 All members must be residents of the county. One must be a veterinarian, one must be a County Commissioner, three others are citizens. All appointments are made by County Commissioners from recommendations of current Animal Control Commission members. Appointments shall be made for a two year term. Animal Control Commission members may be removed for cause. "Cause" shall include, but not be limited to, failure to attend three consecutive regularly scheduled meetings, or a demonstrable lack of interest.

The Meetings are the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm. in the Commissioners office.
