The Dearborn County Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance of over 500 miles of county roads, 102 bridges, 350 small structures, 2800 culverts, 45 miles of guardrail, and over 5700 traffic signs. To carry out our responsibility, the department has a combined office and field staff of 30 employees.
The Highway Department's main office is located at 10255 Randall Avenue, Aurora. To provide service to the citizens of Dearborn County, the department operates two sub-stations throughout the county. One is located near Manchester on County Farm Road, a second is on Randall Ave just outside the City of Aurora.
The average annual department budget is over $4,400,000. The budget comprises of three primary accounts. The Motor Vehicle Highway Account & the Local Road & Street Account, which is funded thru gasoline and license plate taxes ($3,700,000) and The Cum Bridge Fund ($700,000) account is funded thru property taxes. In addition, County Council allocates a small amount of funds from the riverboat gaming revenue to the department.
